What’s the best upgrade/modification
you’ve done to your bass or basses?
Nordstrand Big Splits, a Nordy 3-band preamp, Babicz
FCH bridge, and Hipshot Ultralight tuners.
—Mick Donner
Babicz bridge, EMG HZ J pickups, and an AllParts
neck on one of my Jazz Basses.
—Jon Harris

Took my ’61 Jazz Bass, sanded off the finish,
cut in a Badass I bridge, added a brass nut and a Gibson humbucker between the
two pickups, and got rid of the stack pots. Then I slimmed the neck a bit and
made it fretless. Other than that, it’s stock. I really like the
Pennzoil sticker I just put on it. —Ed

Installing a “producer’s switch”
that does absolutely nothing. It’s always a great laugh during a
session.
—Brian Duke Song
I replaced the tone pot with a Stellartone
ToneStyler. All my passive basses have this mod.
—Chuck Ward
Straplocks + Badass II bridge + Audere preamp = an
amazing-sounding Deluxe Jazz Bass.
—Smackie Bass
Duct tape over the pickups.
—Matthew Bradford
Moses Graphite neck.
—John Richard Voegele Jr
Aguilar ’70s pickups and OBP-2
preamp.
—Tai Jun Kim

Leo Quan Badass bridge,
Hipshot D-Tuner, and Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups on a Fender ’62
Jazz Bass Reissue.
—Steve Gamble
Active EMGs on my ’65 Jazz Bass. No more
buzz, and awesome, beefy tone. Prior to that, in country/western bars with poor
wiring, I would have to stand to avoid the buzz from fluorescent lights.
—Jim Tedeschi
Audere preamp with Nordstrand Fat Stack
pickups—a winning combo! —Ed
