Why I started playing bass My mom bought my dad a Fender bass for his birthday. My dad taught me a few notes, got his guitar, and put my little brother on the drums. Our band grew from that point, with the addition of my other two younger brothers on keyboard and percussion.
Light bulb moment Any time I sit down with my dad’s bass-playing buddies, I get pointers from them. Later, I practice and try to expand on what I’ve learned by coming up with new riffs. I like playing blues because it has simple patterns that are perfect for experimenting.

Why I started playing bass I’ve played drums for years and never understood bass players’ comments, so I decided to strap up a bass and learn. It’s helped me develop my own style and stay in the groove, both on bass and on drums.
Why I play bass today Playing bass is what makes me groove onstage and in life. It is a way to express myself as well as challenge my talents. Playing bass has expanded my drum techniques, and playing percussion has enhanced my bass skills.
Light bulb moment Everyone tells me that when you are young you absorb more, but I do not believe this to be true. As you get older you have more responsibilities, more concerns, and less time to practice. If you can limit your responsibilities, clear your head of all things during practice and find the time to practice like when you were younger, I believe you can learn more and faster at an old age. Try it!
