Why I started playing bass When I was 13, my best friend and I decided we wanted to start a band. He played guitar and knew a drummer. We didn’t know a bass player, so I played bass and wrote our songs.
Why I play bass today At this point, it’s just a natural extension of my personality. It’s my sole creative outlet and primary intellectual stimulation.
Light bulb moment This came about ten years ago, when I really got into odd time signatures and locking in with a good drummer. At that point, I discovered the funadamental importance of groove and how the bass can influence the entire feel through the use of complex rhythms and dynamics. I essentially discovered “playing as part of a rhythm section”
