Why I started playing bass In my first band, nobody wanted to play the bass, so I was the first one to give in. I’ve never regretted that moment!
Why I play bass today Besides making a great living at it and seeing the world, I have always been drawn to the bass. Even as a kid I would watch bass players over the other musicians. That huge sound always intrigued me.
Light bulb moment There have been too many to list, but the latest came when I got a call from the Celtic band Leahy to fill in for their bassist. With only a week to learn the show and a whole new style to absorb, I basically forgot about eating and sleeping to get the sound in my head. When I walked onstage and aced the show, I got the attention of Natalie MacMaster, who hired me for her band. The biggest light bulb moment is that through hard work and focus, great things can happen.
