Orlando “Cachaito” López 1933–2009

Along with his rock-solid pitch and groove, López earned the respect of his peers with his wide-ranging musical interests. With strong roots in jazz, classical, and Cuban dance music, Cachaito pushed Cuban bass beyond its traditional folkloric domain and into the worlds of dub, hip-hop and electronica, as best displayed on his 2001 Elektra album Cachaito.
