We've had a Yamaha BB714BS Billy Sheehan Signature bass around the Bass Player offices for a few weeks now, and I've had a chance to take it out on a few gigs. Look for a full review in the June '09 issue, but here are some of my first impressions:
- It's super comfy. With its thin neck and lightweight body, the bass was a godsend on a marathon salsa/reggaton gig.
- Its low end is no joke. That neck humbucker—referred to lovingly by some as a 'mudbucker' for its deep, dark tone—makes some serious air move.
Stay tuned for more.
Though it's not yet up on Yamaha's website, you can expect the BB714BS to list for $1100 ($700 street).
