Temporal [Ipecac]

Ever since Isis called it quits in 2010, the prog-metal post-rock landscape just hasn’t been the same. Thankfully, this double-disc set of rarities will keep you warm for the winter, beginning with an unearthed demo of the ten-minute epic “Threshold of Transformation,” anchored throughout by Jeff Caxide’s bell-ringing bass tone. Other highlights: a raucous cover of Black Sabbath’s “Hand of Doom” (from the 1999 EP Sawblade) and a stunningly pastoral acoustic version of 2009’s “20 Minutes/40 Years.”
