Roger Mayer Voodoo-BassDecember, 2006 The Voodoo-Bass arrives via the magical mind of Roger Mayer, one of the most revered names in effects since the ’60s, when he designed the Octavia, an octave-up-plus-fuzz pedal that Jimi Hendrix loved. The Voodoo-Bass is an interesting design: It has both a hard-wired output and two buffered outputs for routing flexibility, and its rugged case incorporates an innovative sliding battery door. However, its tone was fairly typical, with perhaps a touch more beef than average thanks to the fatness control. Note-to-note consistency was good and the fuzz was relatively colorful, particularly in the upper mids. My unit had a noisy switch, but otherwise it’s a solid pedal with some clever little touches to help it stand out. DetailsList$50 |
