Sonoma Wire Works RiffWorks Standard| July, 2007 I remember a NAMM show a few years back where I was ushered into an upstairs suite and treated to one of the more remarkable software demos I’d ever seen. While I may have been originally excited by the prospect of a plush lounge chair and free Coke (a cola! This wasn’t NAMM ’82), RiffWorks ($149) pierced my bemused NAMM haze with its promise of easy, riff-based recording and seamless online musical collaboration. With RiffWorks, actual real-time live jams via broadband are possible, as is a myriad of low-hassle recording options. This latest version packs a “lite” version of IK Multimedia’s AmpliTube and a whole bunch of other cool features, like pro drum loops, extensive effects, and “JUNT,” a technology that sense a bass’s rhythmic input to determine tempo and to trigger recording. |
