 With 50-odd years under its belt, rock and its spin-offs have birthed enough cliché symbols to coat the walls of many a tourist trap, not to mention the broadcast schedules of a few nostalgic TV and radio stations. But what does modern music really owe to big hair, leather pants, smashed guitars, platform shoes, and groupies?
