T. Rex Bass Juice

December, 2006

The Danish T. Rex Bass Juice is ensconced in a bone-colored steel case, which, in combination with the cool chickenhead knobs, makes the pedal classier than the average distortion. Its resemblance to the T.C. Electronics Vintage Bass Distortion is no coincedence: they’re the same pedal (T.Rex makes the T.C. pedal).

I liked the bright LEDs and rugged switches and jacks. The plastic battery door, which is the detachable pry-off type, was not up to the otherwise superior quality of the pedal. The clipping circuit is simple, but effective. It’s a pretty gritty fuzz, but the tone color was substantially influenced by the mix control, allowing for a nicely balance blended signal. Overall, the pedal is an exemplary basic distortion: the distorted signal never compromises low end, and the boost control pushes the pedal into a high-gain mode for more insane tones. The price seems high, though.
