Your Turn: The 2007 Bass Player Readers’ Choice AwardsNovember, 2007 The end is near—the end of the year that is, and the arrival of yet another cyclical milestone only proves how most endings are followed by promising new beginnings. So at BASS PLAYER, we’ve decided to mark the end of 2007 by beginning a new tradition: The BASS PLAYER Readers’ Choice Awards. All year long you’ve been reading the articles, reviews, and recommendations about which basses, amps, and players we think should be attracting your attention. Now it’s time for the world of bassists to hear from, well, the world of bassists—that means you—about what is the coolest, hippest, and most inspiring stuff in the world of bass playing. For starters, there’s gear. What are the best new basses, amps, effects, and doodads to emerge into bass consciousness in 2007? Then, players: Who have been the most inspiring, interesting, groundbreaking, groove-moving bassists to tickle your ears and jump-start your fingers? Last of all, we want to know what you think of this—your magazine. Which cover story, transcription, and lesson were the most enlightening? And which video on BASS PLAYER TV most made you think, “Whoa … that was cool”? Here’s how it works: Head to bassplayer.com and click on the Readers’ Choice Awards link, and let your voice be heard. (One ballot per voter, please, and yes, the Internet elves know how to enforce that rule.) We’ll tally up the results and let you know who and what emerged victorious in the May ’08 issue. For the gear categories, we’ll be presenting the manufacturers with a BASS PLAYER Readers’ Choice Award at the NAMM Summer Session in Nashville. (And for your favorite cover feature, I’ll deign to come down off my curmudgeonly Editor-in-Chief throne and give the responsible staffer a pat on the back for a job well done.)
