After taking a brief moment away from the
band, original bassist Josh Paul returns to
supply the bass on Daughtry’s most Southern/
folk-influenced album yet. Paul’s bass
provides the dramatic color to Chris Daughtry’s ballads, utilizing
open notes and long spaces and letting the low end fill out the
bottom range below auto-tuned vocals and acoustic guitar riffs.
Although the band seems to be departing from its post-grunge identity,
Paul still rocks out when the opportunity arises.
