As the only stringed instrument in a band with two drummers and a vocalist, Chris Bierden is the key to Poliça’s alternative, trip-hop sound. On their sophomore album, Bierden once again steps up to the plate, filling out the rhythm and melody with his skillful pick work, endless bag of fills, and spot-on falsetto vocals. Bierden’s controlled, muted attack is the staple of Poliça’s sound, but he certainly knows how to let loose and get dirty in all the right spots.
