On their seventh album, Zach Carothers and bandmates enlisted producer Danger Mouse to help them orchestrate a sound that’s as diverse and extreme as the Alaskan frontier the band calls home. Whether playing fingerstyle or with a pick, Carother’s tone is eclectic and perfectly raw; over the course of an album that features effect-laden gems such as “Hip-Hop Kids,” “Atomic Man,” and “Evil Friends,” Carother’s lines veer from grooving to melodic to eccentrically driving.
