Following the resounding success of their debut, Boys & Girls, Zac Cockrell and Alabama Shakes beat the sophomore slump with a new record full of slow, soulful songs. Cockrell takes a minimalist, blues approach on many of the tracks, but he gets funky on toe-tappers like “Guess Who,” “Don’t Wanna Fight,” and “The Greatest.” Paying homage to old-school Delta blues players, Cockrell proves once again that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
