Chicago doubler Chuck Webb’s high-quality calling card boasts a band of Windy City aces, led by sax and flute monster Steve Eisen. Webb mans his upright for the first five tracks, which includes two originals, his deft melody reading of Sam Rivers’ “Beatrice,” and a spirited spin through Chick Corea’s “Armando’s Rhumba.” Switching to 5-string, the final four tracks include Webb’s killer rhythmic arrangement and slap solo on Monk’s “Epistrophy,” and another groovy step out on James Brown’s “Get On the Good Foot.”
