Foo Fighters decided to try something new for their eighth album, so they traveled to a different city to record each track, an experiment in creativity that seems to have sparked Nate Mendel. The album’s opening song, “Something From Nothing,” finds Mendel stepping out in front with assertive, tight lines before lending his fast picking to “The Feast and the Famine.” Mendel continues to play boldly on the rest of the album, which is refreshing after so many years.
