CD Review: John Mayer "Paradise Valley"

Paradise Valley is John Mayer’s most country & western album yet, but that doesn’t stop veteran session ace and longtime Mayer band member Sean Hurley from stepping out from the traditional roots role with some bass flair.

Paradise Valley is John Mayer’s most country & western album yet, but that doesn’t stop veteran session ace and longtime Mayer band member Sean Hurley from stepping out from the traditional roots role with some bass flair. As he grooves through upbeat numbers like “Wildfire” and J.J. Cale’s “Call Me the Breeze,” Hurley’s vintage Fender bass tone does much to set the mood while throwing in tasteful embellishments and effortlessly supporting Mayer’s impressive guitar work.
