With the departure of Nicole Fiorentino, who wrote and recorded on the Pumpkins’ most recent album, Oceania, Billy Corgan unsurprisingly took matters into his own hands by handling the bass on Monuments. And while Corgan is no stranger to assuming bass duties on Pumpkins records, his top priority this time around seems to be no-frills locking in with drummer Tommy Lee: He summons some terrific tone, but moments on this album make us miss the playing of Fiorentino.
