When Spoon decided to take a four-year hiatus in 2010, Rob Pope kept busy with his other band, the Get Up Kids, but his focus is back solely on his art/indie outfit. On their eighth studio album, Pope’s hip, backbeat feel provides a steady pulse to the vibey, alternative rock tones of the record. “Let Me Be Mine” and “Inside Out” have a vintage-picking feel, and Pope even breaks out some popping chops on the grooving “Rainy Taxi.”
