Ibanez SR Premium

“When we introduced the Premium SR series a few years ago we said it was the SR that had grown up and gone pro. Now with the SR1800ENTF it’s like the pro that hit the big time,” comments Ibanez USA Bass Product Manager Yuichi Hirayama. “I think anyone that appreciates the art of woodworking will be impressed with these new additions to the series.”

Offered in a four-string (SR1800ENTF), five-string (SR1805ENTF) and six-string (SR1806ENTF) versions, the SR’s Mahogany body is layered with numerous materials, all adding up to a pleasing aesthetic. Inside the Rosewood “wings,” a layer of Walnut emerges, complemented by center strips of flamed Maple and Wenge. The instrument has a silky vintage natural flat finish that showcases the quality of the wood, as well as adding the smooth, easy playing feeling to the 5-piece Wenge/Bubinga neck. Abalone fretboard inlays complete the visual statement. In spite of this impressive hit list of exotic materials, this Premium bass stays true to the original SR concept: the bass is surprisingly light in weight – a noticeable contrast to the instrument’s thick sonic character. That big, bold tonal personality is due largely to a pair of Nordstrand “Big Single” pickups—the kind acquainted with boutique instruments. But no matter what musical texture is desired the EQB IIISC 3-Band EQ with EQ bypass and mid-frequency switch, promises quick adjustment no matter what the genre.
