After 20 years as a busy sideman with the likes of Lauryn Hill, Taking Back Sunday, All American Rejects and Chrissie Hynde - Matt Rubano introduces his new band - Black & Blonde. Black & Blonde is a collaboration with guitarist Brooks Allison, sharing all the writing and singing of this diverse new project. “As a songwriter, I really enjoy singing and playing, its made me view the conception of bass parts in a whole new way.

Its also endlessly interesting to me to use all of my skills as a bass player to make the songs unique.” Rubano and Allison met in New York City as cast members of a play and talked about making music together but had no intention of starting a band. "I think we had almost 2 complete songs the first time we got together so it all happened very organically - we realized, hey, we should do this!” The result is a dark and funky kind of indie pop that has equal parts Chromeo and Tame Impala. Black & Blonde will be releasing music throughout 2018 amounting to a 9 song album. Black & Blonde has its debut show on 5/2 in NYC at Pianos. Matt plays Fodera basses, Aguilar Amplification, pickups and pedals, and DR Strings.
