Nate Mendel Of The Foo Fighters Releases His first Solo Album As 'Lieutenant"
By BP Staff ,

Nate Mendel is best known as the bassist for two celebrated rock bands: Foo Fighters and the now-defunct Sunny Day Real Estate. Now, he’s striking out on his own with a solo project called Lieutenant and will release his debut LP, If I Kill This Thing We’re All Going To Eat For A Week, on March 10th via Dine Alone Records.

Although he's played in highly successful and influential bands, this is the first time he's traded in his bass for the guitar and fronted a band as a singer (although he did write and record all of the bass on this album).

The album was produced by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Big Business) and recorded in between Foo Fighters duties last fall and features a guest appearances from Page Hamilton (Helmet), Joe Plumber (Modest Mouse), Josiah Johnson (Head and the Heart), Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters) and Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Estate).

Lieutenant recently played their first two shows in Southern California this week, which included additional performers Jorma Vik (The Bronx, Mariachi El Bronx) on drums, Paul “Pablo” Wilson (Snow Patrol) on guitar, Toshi Kasai on keyboard and Christian Wargo (Fleet Foxes) on bass. The shows went very well. Lieutenant will also be touring in March including a performance at SXSW.
