On the California trio’s fourth studio album, Stephen Pope enlists his “wall of noise” approach, as layers of bass fuzz and distortion drive Wavves’ surf-meets-punk sound. Even with clean tone, his heavy-handed picking is prominent on songs like “Dog” and “Afraid of Heights.”
