Faber PaddleBass
Dutch luthier Arnoud Faber describes his new PaddleBass as “pragmatic with very distinctive looks.” I’d say “distinctive” is putting it mildly. The PaddleBass is made from a single piece of carved mahogany with a bolton maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. The passive electronics include a series/parallel switch and specially voiced tone control.

Propellerhead Record
If you haven’t yet dived into the weird, wild, and wonderful world of Reason, the softsynth digital workstation that revolutionized computer-based music, now is definitely the time. Until the release of Record, Reason’s biggest limitation was its inability to capture live audio. With Record, Propellerhead has addressed this big time. It offers a virtual mixing console modeled after an SSL 9000k, unlimited tracks, a 64-bit mix bus, and a huge variety of effects, many derived from Line 6’s POD line of digital modeling gear.
Price $149 for current Reason owners; $499 paired with Reason
