Introducing a revolutionary Invention for Neck Through Stringed Musical Instruments. The Butterfly Wing Neck Through (patent pending) has been in development for the last three years. After a long period of design, engineering and testing, Michael Gerard Sacco of Sacco Guitars, is very proud to announce the first Prototype Instrument in the form of a Five string bass. The concept and design incorporated in this prototype creates a truly new form of neck – a design which could be applied to not only basses, but electric guitars and other stringed instruments. Up until now necks have been either Bolt (screwed) on, Set (glued in) neck, Or Neck Through, limiting how far sound can carry from the neck type to the body.

With this design, the through neck is fully integrated into the body by new “butterfly wings” rather than relying on sound passing through the neck and being limited to attachment points. The Butterfly wings are designed specifically for each instrument and are set in and across the neck through component at various points and fully extend out and into the body side wings. Resonant Chambers are then carved deep into the body wings next to the Butterfly wings. These chambers vary according to the type, size, and shape of the instrument. Then the top wood is applied over all components, resulting in a fully integrated resonant instrument with much superior amplitude and sustain. This has been verified in acoustic testing by long time audio engineer Pete Pantelis, of KAP Audio in Stratford Connecticut.

Pictured is part of a waveform analysis comparison test result of the Sacco 5 String Bass versus a regular 5 string Neck Through Bass. Overall RMS or average levels, have been improved by up to 30 percent. These substantial acoustic gains in amplitude and sustain obvious from the size and length of the comparison waveforms are further evident when the instrument is powered by onboard electronics and the signal passed out to the amplifier.
