Now that we’ve rounded the curve well into 2014, here’s hoping it’s been swell so far for all y’all. Here at BP HQ, we’ve hardly had time to recover from Bass Player LIVE! and the holiday deadline crunch, and the NAMM Show is already upon us. Real talk: for those of us who attend the show in some sort of working capacity—whether it’s glad-handing in endless meet-and-greets, hawking the latest improvement on this year’s whatchamadoodle, or hitting the show floor in a hopeless attempt to “see it all,” NAMM can be a bit of a grind, and it’s often with a not-so-underlying sense of dread that we contemplate its return. But this year, I’m actually kinda excited. Maybe it’s because I know so little about what I’ll see. In recent years, we’ve been able to track trends—neodymium cabs, Class D amps, modeling software, you-name-it. Aside from a few cool products I’m excited to geek out on, I know next to nothing of what to expect from this year’s show. Will 2014 be a big year for bass gear? We’ll see. For now, I’m content to put my feet up—prior to the severe beating they’ll take in a few days—knowing that I’ll soon be lucky enough to check out the coolest gear on the planet with some of the coolest cats in the land. Then, exhausted, I’ll come back and share whatever I find with a few thousand of my closest friends. See you then.
