On April 15, 2016, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Live At Montreux 1993 on CD, from six-time Grammy winner Al Jarreau. [MSRP $13.98]

A cherished jazz vocalist known for reintroducing and revitalizing the art of scat singing, Al Jarreau has graced the Montreux Jazz Festival stage 11 times in his career. This concert – recorded July 6, 1993– was Jarreau’s 5th appearance at this prestigious festival.

The unique aspect of this particular performance is that Jarreau – a global star at this point in his career – used the show as a launch pad for what would be his new album. The set includes several songs that were new to his repertoire: the famed “Try A Little Tenderness,” “Summertime,” “Mas Que Nada,” and “Your Love For Me.” Backed by a stellar band featuring Steve Gadd (drums), Eric Gale (guitar), Marcus Miller (bass), Philippe Saisse (keyboard), Joe Sample (piano), and Paulinho Da Costa (percussion), Jarreau blended this new material with classics like his 1981 breakout hit “We’re In This Love Together” (from his multi-platinum album Breakin’ Away), “She’s Leaving Home,” “We Got By,” “You Don’t See Me,” and “Alonzo.”

Live At Montreux 1993 is a brilliant aural snapshot of Al Jarreau mixing his history with new material, and is a welcome treasure in any jazz fan’s collection.
