George Porter Jr. is one of the most legendary musicians in the storied history of New Orleans, and one of the most in demand bass players of the past four decades. Porter made a deep impression anchoring the Meters, has notched session work with Paul McCartney, Robert Palmer, Tori Amos, and Taj Mahal, and logged live performances with Warren Haynes, John Scofield and Steve Kimock. Porter has been connecting New Orleans and San Francisco sounds in the rhythm section of 7 Walkers with Bill Kreutzmann in recent years.

Porter is also the leader of his own long-term project the Runnin’ Pardners, and the quintessential New Orleans band is making a rare trip to the West Coast. BP caught Porter ripping it up with the Runnin’ Pardners at the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (see page 18 of the August issue), and we’re pleased as punch to help the Sweetwater put him before an eager audience full of North Bay players and player lovers on October 24th.
