Jazz bass goddess Esperanza Spalding returns to San Francisco as a Resident Artistic Director for SFJAZZ during the weekend before Thanksgiving, and Bass Player is proud to help welcome her back to San Francisco at SFJAZZ Center’s flawless Miner Auditorium for a four-night run from Thursday, November 19 through Sunday, November 22. BP will be onsite with free magazines and D’Addario goodies on Friday and Saturday.
Spalding is a two-time BP cover artist, and she has a very different show planned for each night. Thursday is the ACS Trio with pianist Geri Allen and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. Friday is a duo show with Brazilian songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, and percussionist Guinga. On Saturday, Spalding presents her masterful new trio steeped in funk and soul, featuring guitarist Matthew Stevens and drummer Justin Tyson—the rhythm section at the heart of her exciting new project that draws inspiration from theater and literature, Emily’s D+Evolution. Sunday is the West Coast debut of an all-star trio featuring Beninese guitar star Lionel Loueke and one of the jazz world’s most influential drummers, Jeff “Tain” Watts.
Advance tickets are all sold out, but it’s a good idea to check for turn-back tickets on performance days. The good news is that you can still win tickets through BP Presents by entering the contest below.
