You could call it post-disco, but don’t let the title fool you; Danger Mouse and James Mercer were bound to get a tad cheeky with their sophomore collaboration—it’s just in their nature. Both multi-instrumentalists, they share the bass duties throughout, but they’re at their best over a catchy backbeat, especially on the rather disco-fied title track (with a bass line straight out of Janice- Marie Johnson’s chops catalog) and the compression- crunched “No Matter What You’re Told.” It’s retro, and it still rules.
