As restless and peripatetic as his music, singer-songwriter Cass McCombs also has a deep Rolodex. On 2011’s Wit’s End, Justin Meldal-Johnsen held down the low end; this time around, Phish’s Mike Gordon lends his knack for melodic exploration to a grip of songs (including the summery “Morning Star”) on this whimsical art-folk outing. Multi-instrumentalist Jon Shaw weighs in on the balance, bringing a thick cushion to the spacey ballad “Home on the Range” and the alt-country vamp “Brighter!”
CD Review: Meshell Ndegeocello "Comet, Come To Me"
She’s one of the most eclectic artists in modern soul, yet bassist and singer/songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello still sounds restless.
