Proving what happens when old-school hip meets old-school hip-hop, the Roots team up with Elvis Costello on this eclectic and soulful mash-up. Always in the pocket, Mark Kelley proves how simplicity can impact a tune, as his tastefully grooving lines pay homage to the James Jamerson school of bass. Songs like “Wake Me Up” and “Sugar Won’t Work” illustrate Kelley’s uncanny ability to lock in with Questlove’s drums and Costello’s guitar.
