The veteran Atlanta drummer/bandleader (Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jonas Hellborg) fronts his head-turning new Southern fuze unit, with nimble neophytes Taylor Lee on 6-string bass and Mike Seal on guitar. The trio’s ability to burn white-hot (even on a low flame, thanks to Seal’s clean guitar sound), coupled with turn-on-a-dime tendencies, makes for a searing set. Throughout, and especially on his three compositions “Alberta,” “Banana Pudding,” and “Lightening Man,” Lee doubles and harmonizes melodies, delivers taut plucked and slapped boogie grooves, and soars via dense chordal bursts and neck-spanning solos.
