The Purple One took a small break from his recent touring to record an EP that offers his latest single “Breakfast Can Wait” served five ways. Rather than outsource the bass duties, Prince handles the low end, and needless to say, it’s funky to the core. The original version features an unmistakably vintage-Prince pop-and-pluck line, while the “Espresso” version sports a disco-funk riff that makes it impossible to sit still. In fact, Prince’s bass work is the main dish of each take—and the most important meal of the day.
