After losing Gerard Smith to lung cancer in 2011, TVOTR wouldn’t have surprised anyone if they had called it quits. Fortunately for us, the band has soldiered on, with producer and multi-instrumentalist Dave Sitek admirably taking up the bass rather than handing it over to a hired gun. Seeds is rife with Sitek’s dialed-in touch, from the insistent pedal of the uplifting “Could You” to the punked-up “Lazerray”—all of it oozing with feverish invention and fitting in tribute.
