Chicago Music Exchange (CME) recently debuted its third episode of “Gettin’ Out of the BASSment,” a collaborative video series with BassPlayer.com featuring exclusive CME gear on the streets of Chicago and the factories where the bass magic happens. Hosted by CME’s recognizable Bass Authority and Assistant Manager Marc Stranger-Najjar, the latest installment of the series features an in-depth journey into the world of world-famous boutique builder Fodera Guitars.
CME captured Najjar’s visit to Fodera’s Brooklyn, N.Y., headquarters last fall to hand-select woods and finishes for CME’s first collection of exclusive guitars and basses. Combining the know-how of the shop’s finest bass experts with the passion and craftsmanship of founders Vinny Fodera and Joey Lauricella, the visit culminated in the design and debut of CME’s uniquely built Emperor and Imperial six-string electrics, as well as four- and five-string Emperor and Monarch basses.
"After visiting Fodera's shop in Brooklyn, it became very clear that nothing beats a handmade instrument,” said Najjar, who spoke with Fodera and Lauricella personally about the origins and philosophies of the company. The CME crew also toured the Fodera factory, broke bread with the gang at the founder’s favorite local eatery, and of course, scoped out some seriously impressive raw materials and burled tone woods. CME plans to unveil its first fully custom Fodera instruments for purchase later this month and will offer the option of complete Fodera customization to its clients going forward.
