"We wanted to recreate the analog recordingprocess as closely to the original recordings as possible"

Legendary King’s X frontman, dUg Pinnick, releases his “Tribute to Jimi” (Often Imitated but Never Duplicated) via Rat Pak Records. In a Billboard article, dUg said, “Our voices are similar, I think. We’re a similar nature: Same kind of color, same stature. I used to tell people back in the ’70s he was my big brother.” It’s easy to imagine how many people must have believed him.

“I wanted to get people that really played like Hendrix and had that whole vibe, because I wanted to make a record that sounded truly what it might have sounded like back in the day if Jimi Hendrix was my age now,” dUg continued. “He was seven years older than me, so if he was alive now, what would he do if he wanted to go back and just rerecord the songs? I don’t know what Jimi would do, but I just wanted to get that spirit in the recording of it. We broke it down and basically just discovered a lot of the nuances and the little things that Jimi did that made him a genius.”

According to dUg, "I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time, so when Joe at Rat Pak Records brought the idea up to me, I couldn’t wait to get started! We wanted to recreate the analog recording process as closely to the original recordings as possible, so we did our research and tried to use as many of the original effects and equipment that we could find. I’m very happy with how this turned out and I hope everyone enjoys listening to this music as much as I enjoyed recording it in memory of Jimi Hendrix!”
