Goldenvoice & Bass Player Present: Dream Theater in San Francisco on April 17 -- Win Tickets!

BP Presents is primed to help Goldenvoice present Dream Theater featuring BP cover story artist John Myung at the renowned Warfield Theatre on Market Street in San Francisco on April’s third Thursday.

Famous for its dynamic, marathon live shows, Dream Theater is supporting its eponymous 2013 release that marked a return to the virtuosic band’s prog-rock roots. In his March 2014 cover feature, BP Senior Contributing Editor E.E. Bradman wrote:

“For his part, Myung screams out of the gate with a duo of custom Music Man Bongo basses and a front-pickup grunt that simultaneously recalls Geddy Lee and Chris Squire. ‘Illumination Theory,’ the five-part, 22-minute album closer, contains plenty of bass-tastic highlights, including Myung’s gritty overdrive and big bottom on ‘Live, Die, Kill,’ his counterpoint to John Petrucci’s guitar on ‘The Embracing Circle,’ and his cool runs underneath ‘The Pursuit of Truth,’ all played with the excitement of a teenager who’d one day go to Berklee and then rule the world.”

The story culminates with Myung musing about Dream Theater’s epic live show.

“We show up early at the venue, and it’s just empty seats and us, no energy,” says Myung. “During a show, the place is full, and you have all these people transmitting energy. When we play the older catalog now, it’s like an energy exchange. The audience is what makes it exciting to play and do what we do, and that’s what makes the songs exciting—feeling and transmitting that energy.

“When we first started out,” Myung continues, “there were lots of doubts and worry, but we’re still here and still doing it: enjoying what we do, in a band, making music. We’re about to embark on an extensive tour and see a lot of different people around the world. It’s a really cool situation, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Come trade energy with Dream Theater co-founder John Myung when he and his band of incredibly accomplished players serve up mind-melting progressive metal at one of the finest theaters in the Bay Area—the majestic Warfield.

Watch Myung and Dream Theatre rip “Enigma Machine” live.
