Guitar Legend Wayne Krantz Hits The Road With Anthony Jackson and James Genus For 2015 Tour

Guitar Legend Wayne Krantz Hits The Road With Bass Support From Anthony Jackson and James Genus

Guitarist Wayne Krantz has long been a key player in the world of jazz fusion and improvisation thanks to his virtuosic riffage and his prowess in soloing. But if there's one main reason why we tip our cap to Krantz here at BP, it's for his superb taste in selecting bass players to bring into the studio and on the road with him.

Take his recently released album, Good Piranha/Bad Piranha, that featured the bold playing of his longtime collaborator Tim Lefebvre (CLICK HERE FOR HIS RECENT COVER STORY). On an album packed full of guitar exploration, Lefebvre somehow steals the show with his unorthodox bass approach and his creative grooves. Check out this sample from 2005 of Lefebvre, Krantz and drummer Keith Carlock to get an idea of the magic of this trio:

And now Krantz has announced that he is hitting the road in 2015, and you guessed it, he's bringing along some of the baddest bassists in the game to supply his low end. For the east coast leg of his tour, Krantz will be joined by a bass legend who needs no introduction, Anthony Jackson. Finishing out the trio with Carlock on drums, the band has already sold out most dates of the stretch and will be treating fans to marathon performances that are not to be missed.

After the tour takes off to Asia at the end of February, Krantz will return for his west coast run, which will feature the bass playing of SNL band member James Genus. Genus is known for his New York session work and his playing on albums by Daft Punk, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, Benny Golson, Bill Evans and many others.

For More On The Tour:

Known for his uncompromising musical vision, unique rhythms and deep reserves of soul, guitarist Wayne Krantz ventures beyond the guitar’s limitations to create an identifiably original style and sound. On the heels of a sold-out Ronnie Scott’s show in London, Krantz sets to embark on his Good Piranha/Bad Piranha World Tour, starting on February 11th in Nashville, TN and running through April 4th in Indianapolis.

Featuring three trios across the tour, Krantz kicks off his travels on the U.S. east coast with his old friend Keith Carlock - who also tours and records with Steely Dan and Toto- on drums and the legendary Anthony Jackson on bass. It is one of the first times the rhythm section of Anthony and Keith will be performing together for a stretch of concerts. The band will make stops in Atlanta, Charlotte, Pittsboro (Raleigh area), Sellersville, PA, two nights at the Iridium Club in New York and Vienna in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington DC.

The band kicks off their Asian Tour in India on Feb 27th with long-time friend Cliff Almond on drums and Anthony Jackson on Bass. Cliff, who has been touring primarily with Michel Camilo and Manhattan Transfer, will be returning to India with Krantz after six years. Stops include Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. Wayne makes his debut at The Java Jazz Festival, performing there for two nights. Other Asian stops include Bangkok, Osaka, Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Hong Kong and Shenzen.

The West Coast tour features the third trio with the great James Genus on Bass and Cliff Almond on Drums. A frequent collaborator over the last 20 years, Genus is also known for his work with Herbie Hancock and on Saturday Night Live. The final stops include Seattle, Oakland, San Diego, Los Angeles before they make their way to Chicago, Minneapolis and finishing off in Indianapolis .

European Dates are planned for late Spring and Fall.
