The legendary Chuck Rainey and studio ace Brignardello team up to deliver a grooving version of Brignardello’s new instrumental, ‘New Year’s Day’. “I met Chuck a couple of years ago at a dinner at a friend’s house. When I heard he was visiting Nashville this past summer I sent him my song demo. He liked the tune so I rounded up Greg Morrow on drums, and Steve Nathan on keyboards and the four of us cut the track. Keyboards, drums, and two bass players. Just like God intended.”

“The title was inspired by an annual dinner Victor Wooten hosts on new year’s day. He gathers bass players and other people from the music industry, and that annual gathering inspired me to write New Years Day.” The track features Rainey’s signature slides and his percolating rhythmic sensibility, while Morrow lays down a slinky groove under Brignardello’s melodies. Nathan’s keyboards bob and weave throughout, and his horn arrangement evokes shades of The Dan. “It was one of the best studio days I’ve ever had. It seem like we laughed our way through the session. And every time I hear the track it reminds me of driving down the PCH on a sunny day.” Maybe New Years Day….
