Victor Wooten is a founding member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones as well as a five-time Grammy Award-winner, and has graced the covers of bass magazines all over the world. He has been voted Bass Player of the Year by Bass Player magazine readers more often than any other bass player and is in constant demand as an artist/clinician/producer. His novel, The Music Lesson, has been translated to several languages and is integrated into Berklee’s core curriculum. His most recent releases, Words and Tones, a vocal album, and Sword and Stone, an instrumental album, both appeared in the top 10 of the iTunes music charts.
Steve Bailey, chair of Berklee’s Bass Department, has toured and recorded with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Willie Nelson, Jethro Tull, Paquito D’Rivera, Larry Carlton, and the Rippingtons. He has performed concerts and clinics all over the world, and for over 20 years, has partnered with fellow bassist Victor Wooten on numerous projects, including the cutting edge group Bass Extremes. Most recently, he has been touring with bass legends Lee Sklar and Jonas Hellborg in the three bass group JoStLe, and with Wooten, supporting Words and Tones and Sword and Stone.
J. D. Blair’s credo boils down to this: groove and praise to God. For more than forty years, that is exactly what Blair has done. His work, which began at church, reaches across all musical genres. As he has lived a large part of his life in the South, it was inevitable that country music would eventually come calling. Blair has played with some of the biggest names in country music, including Wynonna Judd, Lyle Lovett, Shelby Lynne, and Shania Twain. Blair has received many awards for his accomplishments, including Drum! magazine’s Country Drummer of the Year. He also has been awarded the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. In 2011, Blair and Victor Wooten toured Europe together as a duo called 2 Minds, 1 Groove.
Derico Watson hails from Muskeegan, Michigan, and is an accomplished educator and clinician who has performed and/or recorded with artists such as Victor Wooten, George Duke, Jeff Coffin, Prasanna, Tommy Sims, and Ken Reynolds just to name a few. He has also toured with Marvin Sapp, the Dynamites, Stacie Orrico, SMV (Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten), and the Derico Watson Group, which has appeared with James Brown, Spyro Gyra, and Earth, Wind and Fire. Watson has presented drum clinics and master classes at Berklee, PASIC, the Montreal Drum Fest and the Mexico City Drum Festival. Currently, Derico records and tours with Wooten and SMV. When he’s not on the road, he resides in Nashville, TN, where he teaches and records regularly.
