When Pete Hilton was working under famed bass builder Carl Thompson, the two would often discuss making a bass out of plywood to see how it would sound. When Hilton decided to move from New York to Los Angeles to branch off on his own, he finally completed that vision. But rather than making a bass merely out of plywood, Hilton decided to take it one step further and construct one made entirely of skateboard decks.
Crafted out of the bodies of eleven different boards, the Sk8bass has a 36-inch scale, with a mahogany neck and purple heart and curly maple binding. For electronics, the Sk8bass is equipped with a pair of Aguilar DCB pickups with matching covers and an Aguilar OBP-1 preamp.
